16-year-old arrested; planned shooting with explosives at Berkeley Excessive, police say

BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass faculty taking pictures that might have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive School, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division stated in a press launch. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no school that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive gadget supplies and threatening to commit against the law which will result in dying or great bodily injury.

Police mentioned they received a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a taking pictures that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teen was a student at Berkeley High School.

Upon executing the search warrant, police stated they found components to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and electronic gadgets that may very well be used to create further weapons. 

At that time, a warrant was obtained for the teen's arrest.

Details on whom the teen was attempting to recruit were not disclosed. Police stated this case remains below investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens advised the school's group that the district was in close contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon components, the district relied on police expertise to assess any potential ongoing threat to its faculties. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions throughout this era, we alerted our administrative and security workers about this investigation and, as is our normal practice, maintained shut contact with our BPD College Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley High School campus," Stephens wrote. "All through the investigation period, we have been assured that this particular person did not pose an instantaneous threat to the Berkeley High School neighborhood."

The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter.
