Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech large stated its iconic music participant has been changed by different units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, stated: "At the moment, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have built-in an unimaginable music experience across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with support for spatial audio - there is not any higher approach to get pleasure from, uncover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the primary MP3 participant that would hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a complete new class of digital music participant that permits you to put your total music assortment in your pocket and take heed to it wherever you go," he stated on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same once more."

Comparable MP3 players launched by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success as the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 versions of its music player - the Basic, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The company has been slowly killing its iPod range in recent times, with cell phone expertise enabling customers to listen to music companies on their telephones.

In 2014, the traditional click on wheel mannequin was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano were killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod touch was the one mannequin still on sale as we speak.

With out the iPod, there would by no means have been an iPhone or iPod, in keeping with its inventor Tony Fadell.
