A fifth grade student in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to hold out a mass capturing, authorities stated.

In a press release Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace mentioned it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening textual content message" despatched by a pupil at an elementary school.

It stated its local college menace enforcement crew was instantly notified and started investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's office stated.

In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led right into a police car.

“This student’s behavior is sickening, especially after the latest tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in an announcement, noting that the menace got here simply days after the deadly faculty taking pictures at Robb Elementary School left 19 college students and two lecturers useless.

“Right now will not be the time to behave like just a little delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he stated. “This youngster made a fake threat, and now he’s experiencing actual consequences.”

Marceno mentioned his workforce “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to investigate the incident.

The comment came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 school taking pictures after it got here to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup as an alternative of immediately moving in on the gunman.
