A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to carry out a mass shooting, authorities said.
In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office stated it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening textual content message" sent by a scholar at an elementary college.
It said its local school threat enforcement workforce was instantly notified and began investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's workplace said.
In video shared by authorities, the boy could be seen being led into a police car.
“This scholar’s behavior is sickening, particularly after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno mentioned in an announcement, noting that the threat came simply days after the lethal college shooting at Robb Elementary College left 19 students and two lecturers lifeless.
“Proper now will not be the time to behave like a little bit delinquent. It’s not funny,” he stated. “This baby made a fake risk, and now he’s experiencing real penalties.”
