Mother or father with hid weapon unintentionally shoots self while at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the parent in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a guardian with a concealed weapon had his gun accidentally go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

The varsity had early release and college students have been launched at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In accordance with police, the parent, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by accident shot himself. His injury was not critical.

The college district mentioned White was contained in the constructing, close to the lobby area, and never in the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and college officers stated there was no menace made and the dad or mum did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or staff have been injured. The guardian was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days because the Uvalde mass college shooting, there have been five cases in North Texas related to guns brought to varsities or threats made.

Arlington mother and father mentioned their minds instantly thought of the worst once they were notified.

No guardian ever needs there to be a motive for them to get a text message saying their kid's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help however assume the worst once they do.

"Once I obtained the textual content message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to happen.’ I was shocked," guardian Karima Rasheed mentioned.

While most instances, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, stated that understanding what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I started seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher acquired a notification on their telephone saying someone was within the constructing," he said.

Weapons are usually not allowed on faculty property, and oldsters FOX 4 spoke with mentioned even if it was a mistake, the timing is simply terrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to highschool, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, but you by no means wish to be the one statistic. What if it's your children?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives throughout the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve received twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington faculty and every time I hear there is a lockdown or a school taking pictures, my heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed said Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his school.

"If something happened, you’ve got to run wherever that’s protected and conceal," she informed her little one.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is just too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing needs to be accomplished now. 

"They want to talk about it, they want to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t want to truly pass any laws and do anything," he added.
