The policy, disclosed in leaked emails Musk sent to Tesla's govt workers Tuesday, was first reported by electrical vehicle news site Electrek.
"Anybody who wishes to do remote work have to be in the office for a minimum (and I mean *minimal*) of 40 hours per week or depart Tesla. This is lower than we ask of manufacturing unit workers," Musk wrote, adding that the office should be the worker's major workplace where the opposite staff they usually interact with are primarily based — "not a distant branch office unrelated to the job duties."
Musk said he would personally review any request for exemption from the coverage, but that for the most part, "For those who don't present up, we'll assume you will have resigned."
Tesla (TSLA) did not respond to a request for touch upon the coverage change, but Musk appeared to confirm it in a tweet of his own early Wednesday when asked on Twitter, "Hey Elon...any further remark to individuals who suppose coming into work is an antiquated idea?"
